A visit with Mama in Erin, Tennessee
I had the opportunity of spending a few days with my mother, Sally Douglas, up in Erin, TN. Mama is in a rehab facility recovering from a broken right hip. We were able to have lunch here at the Erin Grill.
It is always nice to be in Erin, the folks are friendly and the food is nice. As you may know, Mama lives with Dan and Elizabeth Martin right here in Erin. This visit Elizabeth has gone to Washington, DC to visit with their daughters, Heather and Sarah; so I enjoyed being with Dan.
Mama and I visited Fort Donnelson, the site of a Civil War battle, and then went on up into Kentucky to the Land Between the Lakes. We saw herds of turkey, deer, some buffalo and this elk!!!
She and I drove on down and across to the Tennessee River at McKinnon, TN before returning to Erin for supper.
This is Mama's roommate, Linda Elliot. They get along nicely, Linda suffers from Huntington's syndrome, and is a very good roommate for Mama to have.
Dan and I enjoyed taking Mama out for lunch on the day that I returned home. She loves going out with family and friends. We are so thankful that Dan and Elizabeth have opened up their home to take care of Mama.

Merry Christmas 2006
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:11-14
Christmas greetings to you and your household.
Cindy and I have had a busy year with most of our children now living outside the house; wow, the challenges of being an empty-nester are great!!
In June Rosemary graduated from Judson College with majors in art and history, she now works for a nice art framing company here in Birmingham and enjoys her friendship with Darrel (he is a junior history major at Samford). Samuel (our youngest) is a freshman at Samford University, majoring in bio-chemistry.
Here are James, John and Gilbert with our good friend Ryan Morrison (pipemajor of Heritage Pipes and Drums). Gilbert IV is currently in a three year internal residency at Carraway Medical Center here in Birmingham. He is really working hard; but enjoying it.
We are all looking forward to the marriage of James and Georgianne Patterson in March. You may recall, James served an 8 month tour of duty with the Marines near Al Fallujah, Iraq – we are thankful for his safe return; he is now working as a GIS / environmental specialist with The Nature Conservancy.
Our John is a Cadet at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, VA majoring in chemistry, playing bagpipes and working toward a commission in the Marines.
We’d love for you to visit us in Birmingham, until that time, please visit my website:
